When NOT to be a giver
One of the principles I teach is “it is in giving that we receive”. It is the basic principle of the universe, known to many as “karma”.
However, one of my clients expressed disgruntlement with this teaching. She had been very generous and giving to many people, including family members, friends, and romantic partners, and received nothing in return except frustration and disappointment.
Her perspective is absolutely valid and she has a right to question this principle.
Why do some people seem to receive great rewards from their generosity and kindness while others just get depleted and used up?
There are two reasons.
One is our own frequency and energetic resonance. Our dominant beliefs, thought forms in our field, generate a particular vibration that will attract its match. We may have the right intention and are using a good principle (give to receive), but our vibe is attracting the wrong people with the wrong intentions.
The second reason (which actually connects to the first reason) is that we are limiting our capacity to receive. Because of painful past experiences, we may be deeply uncomfortable receiving from others. This may include receiving love, money, admiration, etc.
This sets us up for a cycle where we are attracting people who are not capable of reciprocating our generosity and kindness.
Awareness is the first step to shifting this frequency. The thought forms that are present in our field that perpetuate these negative beliefs and negatively calibrate our frequency are sneaky and deceiving. They will lead you to believe that you are simply unlucky and an unfortunate victim of self-centered people. Because those thought forms repeatedly “feed” us evidence of all the terrible people who treated us badly in the past, it is easy to slip into feelings of frustration, disappointment, and despair.
If we can take a step back and evaluate the situation with honesty and non-judgement, we would see how we actually created the situation. Believe me, we are powerful creators! It may not be immediately obvious how we contributed to certain situations… but we actually do.
I know this is a loaded subject and I could go into greater detail, but I don’t wish to overload you. If you find this topic interesting, I would appreciate it if you let me know. If there are other topics you enjoy reading about, feel free to include that information as well!
